What Is Dry Eye?
Dry eye is an uncomfortable and irritating eye condition that many Americans have.
Dry eye affects your tear film, a layer of tears that covers the surface of your eye. Your tear film has 3 different ingredients: an oily layer, a watery layer, and a mucus layer. When an issue disturbs any of these ingredients, you may begin to develop dry eye symptoms.
Dry Eye Types & Symptoms
There are 2 different types of dry eye.
- Evaporative dry eye: when your tears evaporate too quickly
- Aqueous tear deficiency: when your eyes don’t produce enough tears
Common dry eye symptoms include redness, irritation, wateriness, light sensitivity, blurry vision, and difficulty wearing contact lenses.
Detecting Dry Eye
There are several ways we can detect dry eyes.
We use tests that examine the quality of your tears and the structures responsible for maintaining your eye comfort. That way, we can get a detailed view of your symptoms and what may be causing them.
Some of these techniques include TearLab and InflammaDry. With these devices, we can determine how serious your symptoms are and find the best solution to bring you some relief.
Finding Relief
At Eye Care Plus Grand, we use modern techniques to treat and manage dry eye disease. Because all eyes are different, we offer several different treatments based on your dry eye symptoms.
We offer the following treatments to help you find relief:
- Intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy
- Radiofrequency therapy
- Warm compresses
- Gentle heat and pressure therapy
- Natural eye drops
Many of these treatments add gentle heat and pressure to loosen and melt blockages in the glands along your eyelids where there may be blockages. And natural eye drops can help soothe corneal issues that may be causing dry eye.
